The efficient use of automatically running robotic stations for the development of microbial processes can be only achieved by the integration of advanced methods for the model based Optimal Experimental Design (OED) to consider the nonlinear dynamics of the process. We developed a “lab of the Future” concept by combining robots with automatically running modelling and data collection tools, which continuously re-design the experiment based on the analytical data which are generated during an experiment with the aim to generate a valid process model within a single experiment. All these methods are integrated in a framework to create an intelligent laboratory for rapid characterization of biosystems. The strength of these methods will be demonstrated at the example for biocatalytic and biopharmaceutic bioprocesses. |
