Prof. Dr. Adel El-Beltagy is currently Chair of the International Drylands Development Commission (IDDC); Professor, Arid Land Agricultural Graduate Studies & Research Institute (ALARI), Ain Shams University, Egypt. Chair of the Food and Agriculture Research Council at the Egyptian Academy of Science, Chair of the Agriculture Committee of Supreme Council of Universities, Member of the Advisory Board of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Member of the Board of Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT). He has served as Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (2014/2015), Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2015/2018), President of the Governing Board of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) (2010/2014), Board Member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Board Member of the Supreme Council for Science and Technology (2008–2011), Chairman of the Agricultural Research and Development Council (ARDC), Egypt (2007–2011), Vice Chair/Member of the board of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (GCDT) (2007–2011), Member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) change steering team (2007/2008), Council member of the CGIAR (2006–2011), Chair of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) (2006–2010), Member of the FAO High-Level Committee addressing the implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (2006–2011). Professor El-Beltagy had been awarded: 2015, Golden Medal of CIHEAM, 2014, Commander of the Order of Agricultural Merit (France) 2009; State Recognition Prize in Science (Egypt) 2008; Sultan Qaboos 'First Class' Order for Culture, Sciences and Arts 2005, Al-Istiklal Medal by His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan, the Golden Medal Award for Achievements in Agriculture, Republic of Armenia (2006); Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) Honorary Medal (2003); and Golden Pen of the International Society for Horticultural Science (1982). Professor El-Beltagy is a Foreign Member and Academician the Republic of Kazakhstan (2006), Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2002), the Kyrgyz Agrarian Academy (2001), the Georgian Academy Agricultural Sciences, Tbilisi (1999), Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Moscow (1999), and Fellow of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK (1993).
