Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program For Egyptian and African Young Researchers

Application Deadline: Extended to 30 November 2021. 

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) are pleased to announce that the Joint ASRT-BA Research Grants Program for Young Researchers “Second Call” is now open.

For post-doctoral young Egyptian and non-Egyptian African researchers under the age of 45 conducting an innovative applied research in one of the following areas:

  • Food and Agricultural Sciences
  • Environment
  • Engineering Sciences and Technologies 
  • Medical Sciences

The value of the grant is up to EGP 250,000 per grant. 

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must be currently working at a public/private academic or research institution in Africa 

  • The research must be conducted in Egypt. 

  • Egyptian candidates must be currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with counterpart(s) outside his working institution.

  • African candidates must have Egyptian counterpart(s) working in Egypt.

  • The Grant maximum duration is 18 months.

TWAS-AREP Workshop Climate Change: Lens on Priorities

 The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), in collaboration with The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP), organizes an online workshop on Climate Change within the framework of the Young Scientists Training Program on 7–8 December 2021 within the framework of TWAS-AREP Young Scientists Training Program. 

The workshop aims at highlighting climate change priority issues, research priorities, and climate change related risks and concerns for developing countries with particular focus on the Arab region. Also, the workshop will present practical experiences from different developing regions on tackling climate change and the role of research in these regards. 

The workshop will give the opportunity for young researchers under the age of 40 to network with experts and researchers from developing counties.  

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants must be 40 years old or less.

  • Master/ PhD Students and PhD holders in any field of life or natural sciences.

  • Living/ working in developing countries.

  • Women scientists, refugees, and/or displaced scientists are highly encouraged to apply.

The workshop is free of charge.

  • Motivation statement shall not exceed more than 250 words in English 

  • (Motivation should include your current research and its relation to climate change, why you wish to join the workshop, and your potential research ideas in relation to climate change).

No One Left Behind Woskshop

Within the framework of the annual program "Innovate Now…Live tomorrow!" launched by the BA Information for Africa (BAIFA) and the Francophone Network at the BA Library Sector, The ITU-UNESCO Regional Digital inclusion Week for Arab States, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with UNESCO, organizes a virtual conference entitled "No One Left Behind: Leveraging Innovation for Access to Quality Education and Information" given by a group of Academics and Information Professionals from UNESCO. 

The conference will take place on Tuesday 30th of November and Wednesday 1st of December 2021, at 11:00am.

Simultaneous interpretation into English, French and Arabic will be available
