Cultural Debates

Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the fifth and final workshop implemented under the theme of “Cultural Debates: A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”, between the 7-8 November 2015. The event will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, and will be chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, director of the BA.

Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, and in line with the Tanta International Poetry Festival, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the fourth workshop under the theme of “A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”. The event will be held between the 31st October to 1st November at Tanta Cultural Palace.

Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the third workshop under the theme of “A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”. The event will be held between 1–2 of October, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center. The event acquires its significance from being the third in a series of workshops which aim to draft a cultural policy for Egypt, to be further presented to the Egyptian authorities for discussion and adoption.

In collaboration with the European Union, and within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a cultural debate under the title of “Folklore in Egypt: Future Perspectives”. The debate will be held on Wednesday, 16 of September 2015, at the High Institute of Folklore in the complex of the Academy of Arts, in Giza.

Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a new workshop under the theme of “A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”. The event will be held between 27–28 of August, at Misr Public Library in Port Said. The event acquires its significance from being the second in a series of workshops which aim to draft a cultural policy for Egypt, to be further presented to the Egyptian authorities for discussion and adoption.

As the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt approaches completion, one of the main and most significant objectives of the project is being realized, which is drafting a national cultural policy for Egypt. To this effect, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a workshop under the theme of “The Cultural Debates: A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”. The event will be held on Wednesday, the 8th of July 2015, at the historical building of Bayt Al-Sinnari in Cairo.

Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt is organizing its 11th cultural debate on Wednesday, the 1st of July 2015, under the title of “Culture and Sociology”. The debate will be held at Bayt Al-Sinnari, in Cairo.

Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt is organizing its 10th cultural debate on Monday, the 1st of June 2015 under the title of “Foreign Cultural Institutes in Egypt: Achievements and Challenges”. The debate will be held at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria.

Within the framework of the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized the program’s ninth cultural debate under the theme of “Cultural Change in the Egyptian Countryside”. The debate was held on Saturday, the 21st of March at the Tahrir Forum in Monofeya.

Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a new cultural debate under the title of “The Egyptian Cultural System”. The debate will be held on Tuesday, the 10th of March 2015, the Egyptian National Library and Archives (Dar Al-Kotob), in Cairo.

Within the framework of the program “Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt”, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the program’s seventh cultural debate under the theme of “The Culture of Upper Egypt: A Rediscovery for the Future”. The debate will be held on Thursday the 5th of March, at Assiut University.

Within the framework of the program "Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt", the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized the program’s sixth cultural debate under the theme of “Cultural Particularity of Delta: A Vision for Interaction”. The debate was held on Wednesday, 11th of February, 2015 at Books and Beans Foundation in Mansoura.

Within the framework of the program “Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt”, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the program’s fifth cultural debate under the theme of “The Independent Film in Alexandria 2005 - 2025”. The debate will be held on Thursday the 29th of January, at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria.

Within the framework of the program “Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt”, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized the program’s fourth cultural debate under the theme of “The Civil Society and the Independent Cultural Communities in Egypt”. The debate took place on the 23rd of December, 2014 and was hosted by Doum Foundation in Cairo.

Within the framework of the program “Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt”, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized and hosted the program's 3rd Cultural Debate with the theme of "Alexandria the Inspiration of Artists". The debate took place on the 16th of October and was attended by an elite group of leading intellectuals, writers, critics, thinkers and publishers among others.

The second cultural debate under the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt, was organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on July 19th 2014 at the historic Bayt Al-Sinnari. The event brought together thirty prominent intellectuals and experts from various governorates to discuss and make recommendations regarding the ways to enhance the role of literature in general, and cultural magazines in particular, in order to promote culture in Egypt.

The first Cultural Debate under the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt was organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on the 3rd of May, 2014. It focused on formulating a founding report on the status of culture in Egypt. This first founding report acquires its importance by establishing the infrastructure of the work, as it includes basic information about the Egyptian culture, institutional maps, and diverse fields of cultural work. The report also aspires to develop the nucleus for an annual report that will be issued at a later stage.
