Mapping and Supporting Cultural Industries in Egypt
Triggered by the untapped potential that cultural industries in Egypt possess and the positive contribution they can provide, this pillar seeks to map and consolidate the existing cultural operators all over Egypt. It seeks to provide them with the requested tools to boost their activities and facilitate their national, regional, and international exposure.
As part of this activity, a team of researchers explore all 27 Egyptian governorates for existing cultural industries and categorize them according to their field of work. This is done through contacting and visiting the local authorities, the central cultural organizations, the NGOs and the local associations in the different governorates.
Once the data is complete, the cultural industries will be profiled following a unified template. The data will be used in compiling a printed as well as an online directory of all the cultural industries, categorized according to their nature and field of work, in both Arabic and English. The hard copies will be disseminated to the cultural and tourism operators allover Egypt. Meanwhile, the online version will be available through an online directory, which will serve as a methodical reference for the public, the government, and the private sector. The directory will also enable the production of statistics on the current situation, the size and the activities of cultural industries in Egypt. It will be launched during the concluding conference of the program and will be accompanied by a marketing campaign, making this directory available to all.
Throughout the compilation process, the program will also offer a series of interactive workshops under the theme of “Building Perceptions and Developing Capacities in the Egyptian Cultural Fields”. These workshops aim to train workers in the cultural field on a set of sophisticated techniques, to raise their skills and prepare them to carry out their responsibilities to further enhance the cultural development of Egypt. In the attempt to reach out to the various cultural operators in the country, the workshops will take the form of a series, carried out in different Egyptian governorates.
