The Hellenistic period witnessed many achievements and contributions in all fields of knowledge that have greatly added to human thought and to the culmination of modern science, culture, and civilization in general. To celebrate the 24 centuries that elapsed since its beginning and the foundation of both the Library and the Museum of Alexandria, the Vardinoyannis Foundation, the Acropolis Museum, the BA Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies, and the Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for Environmental Sciences took the initiative to co-organize a high-level Conference to serve as a stimulus to scholars of different disciplines and to turn their attention to the Hellenistic world and its importance to our civilization.
The “Hellenistic Alexandria: Celebrating 24 Centuries” Conference is going to be held at the Acropolis Museum in Athens from 13 to 15 December 2017.
The Conference will encourage high level dialogues and philosophical discussions between international experts on Hellenistic Alexandria who will point out the importance of the brilliantly original ideas of the Hellenistic age and the curious modernity of the whole atmosphere of the time. The conference will be divided equally between chronological history and cultural themes, highlighting the impact of Hellenistic ideas on modern philosophy, art, and contemporary science.
