The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the third edition of the International Conference on Information Literacy - Africa 2024 "ICIL Africa", which is being held for the first time in Egypt and North Africa under the slogan "Information Literacy Revolution... Get ready!", in collaboration with North-West University (NWU), the University of Pretoria, the Association of African Universities - North Africa Regional Office (AAU – NARO), and the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AFLIA), from 14 to 17 October at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center. Registration for the conference is still open through the following link: https://bibalex.org/baifa/en/page/ICIL-Africa2024Registration

The conference aims to bring together researchers, library and information service providers, media professionals, educators and policymakers from around the world to share knowledge and experiences and discuss recent developments and current challenges in the field of information literacy. The conference discusses several common and emerging topics of interest to librarians and researchers, related to digital inclusion, smart libraries, the inclusion of artificial intelligence (AI) in various library operations, and the use of robotics. The conference will also address serious topics such as the ethics of artificial intelligence and the threats to librarians’ jobs in light of the enormous development of digital technology.

Three workshops will be held as part of the conference:

  1. 12 – 13 October: “Training Program for Innovative Library Leaders”, in cooperation with the BA Professional Diplomas and Programs Section, and in partnership with the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), delivered by the Center’s director Dr. Clara M. Chu, and Dr. Peggy Nzumo, International Library Initiatives Specialist.
  2. 15 October: “The role of Critical Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in an Increasingly Information Disordered World”, delivered by Dr. Peggy Nzumo.
  3. 16 October: “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Libraries and Museums”, delivered by Eng. Ayman Elsayed, Head of Learning and Outreach Programs at Legacy Co, and Eng. Ayman Elkabany, CEO of TechnoFuture Egypt and Director of Robofest Official Egypt.

Additionally, a musical concert by Folklorita Band will be presented on the sidelines of the conference.
