A Workshop on Freedom of Thought at the BA

Alexandria- the BA Arab Reform Forum is organizing from Monday, 28 August a two- day workshop entitled “Freedom of Expression Beacon”. The workshop discusses he intellectual freedom in Egypt as a crucial element in developing the Egyptian society and a gateway towards Egypt’s entry to the knowledge society.
The two-day workshop will comprise of six sessions in addition to the opening session. Each session will discuss a theme, and the last session will be devoted to recommendations and results.
The themes are namely: the historic background of intellectual freedom issues in Egypt; the legal framework of intellectual freedom; the reality of academic freedom; the reality of scientific research freedom; religious thinking between taqlid (imitation) and ijtihad (modern Islamic reform); and societal hindrances on intellectual freedom.
The workshop will start at 9:00 hrs, at the Third Floor Floating Room, at the BA.
