Journalists’ Conference

‘Correcting Images - Building Bridges over the Mediterranean’

The Anna Lindh Foundation is launching in partnership with InWEnt (International Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gGmbH, Capacity Building International - Germany), the German School of Journalism and the Young Journalist Club of Bavaria are organizing the Journalists Conference ‘Correcting Images. Building Bridges over the Mediterranean’. The event will take place in Feldafing, Germany, from 17 to 19 December, 2006.

The seminar will provide a forum to deliberate on various cultural identities and perspectives with the aim of creating a long-term basis for a dialogue between young journalists from the countries of Europe, particularly Germany, and the Mediterranean.

Eight-five participants – journalists and civil society representatives, university professors and students from the German School of Journalism - will gather to discuss the following questions:

- What happened to the Barcelona Process? How well has this body of rules and regulations performed in the rapidly changing global system (enlargement of the European Union, September 11th terrorist in the USA)?
- Are the concepts and instruments set up in the Barcelona Process suitable to address the global challenges, e.g. migration problems in the Arab states?
- In which way is the Barcelona Process perceived, covered and reflected in both partner regions?
- How can the media generally be equipped to support intercultural dialogue and a better understanding between orient and occident?
- What are the prospects for the future: How can young journalists contribute to the achievement of the Barcelona Process?

The opening session will take place at 3:00pm on 17 December 2006, at the InWEnt premises in Feldafing. During the seminar, two workshops will be organized to discuss the following themes: ‘Culture, Migration and Governance – the NGO perspective’; ‘Culture Migration and Governance – the Journalists perspective’.
