“Progress of the World’s Women” Report Launch at the BA

The BA hosted the launch of the UN Women report “Progress of the World’s Women” on Monday, 27 April 2015. The launch took place simultaneously in eight different cities (New York, London, Mexico City, Alexandria, Nairobi, Dakar, Bangkok, and Canberra), each representing one of five continents. This simultaneous regional and international launch will help spread the report’s message to a wider audience.
The report launch at the BA, which is a depositary library for UN publications, included a discussion circle titled “No Progress without Women: Economic Empowerment to Reach a Nation’s Potential: Women as Business Pioneers”. The discussion revolved around women’s role in a country’s progress and economic development. The discussion also highlighted women’s absence from the job market in Egypt and how to fix that issue and the government and private sector’s responsibilities.
“Progress of the World’s Women” is the UN Women’s flagship report. This year’s report focuses on social and economic rights for women, such as the right to employment, healthcare, child support, and security at old age.
Coinciding with the international celebrations of Beijing+20, and following the 95th UN Women committee meeting at the New York headquarters, the 2015 report is based on international deliberations concerning gender equality and women’s rights, presenting a detailed and unique image of economic empowerment for women. It also stresses the need to centralize all discussions and the importance for world leaders to prepare a road map beyond 2015 in September 2015.
