The BA Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Cairo Microsoft Innovation Center

As part of the agreements concluded with different educational and cultural institutions, the BA will sign a memorandum of understanding with Cairo Microsoft Innovation Center, a division of Microsoft Egypt, LLC on Thursday, 31 May 2007, attended by senior officials at Microsoft and the BA. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Dr. Tarek Al-Abbady, Director of Cairo Microsoft Innovation Center will sign the MOU to implement potential collaboration projects on digital content management.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin stated that the agreement stipulates that the two parties shall collaborate on defining innovative services for digital libraries and scope computing and human resources required to implement the services. He added that the MOU is the first cooperation process between the two institutions to execute several projects introducing new Digital Library service, benefiting from the expertise of Microsoft and the BA in new techniques of digital content management. Thus, helping the BA realize its mission as the most renowned center for disseminating knowledge on a wide scale in the whole region.
The provisions of the MOU stipulates that both parties will work together to launch a new set of digital library services, to identify and implement new research scenarios to improve the access to digital contents, to equip the research team with necessary tools to facilitate their mission, and to enhance the Library's capacity to maintain its pioneer position as a distinguished international Library.
