The BA’s nine specialized Advisory Committees held their meeting at the BA on Thursday, 14 June 2007. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA met with the committees' members and started with a presentation on knowledge and scientific research in the world. The lecture caused wide repercussion among the members; some described it as shocking and frustrating, as it reveals the deteriorated role of Egypt in the field of knowledge and scientific research, compared to the other countries of the world, especially in Africa and Asia.
The meetings follow the annual renewal of the committees and choosing of new reporters while emphasizing the BA's efforts to deeply root its relationship with Egyptian scholars and intellectuals so as to benefit from their wisdom and views in drafting the BA's strategies and programs.
On the role of the committees and the nature of their work, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, stated that these committees give impetus to the BA's artistic, cultural, and scientific mission through the participation of its members in formulating the activities and programs of the BA. Dr. Mohsen Youssef, Director of the Dialogue Forum Center chairs the advisory committees.
Dr. Serageldin added that, without the guidance of the distinguished intellectuals on the Egyptian cultural and scientific arena, the BA would not be able to disseminate knowledge to its international and local audience, nor spread awareness on the services provided by the BA to researchers and knowledge seekers.
