His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Ibn Sultan: "The BA Gives Pride to Arabs and Humanity at Large"

Alexandria—His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Ibn Sultan Ibn Abdelaziz Al Saud, Assistant Minister of Defense and General Inspector of Military Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visited the BA on Sunday, 30 June 2007, as one of the scientific and cultural sites in Egypt. His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Ibn Sultan Ibn Abdelaziz Al-Saud was accompanied by a senior Saudi military delegation, and General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria.

Ambassador Hagar Islambouly, Head of the BA External Relations Sector and Dr. Sherif Riad, Director of Public Relations Department, received His Royal Highness. Presenting him with a crystal pyramid, a symbol of the BA, on behalf of Dr. Ismail Serageldin, as well as a collection of the BA publications: "Bulaq Press", "The Writings on the Walls of Al Hamra Palaces", and "History of Writing", which are among the best publications of the BA Media Department.

His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Ibn Sultan watched a documentary of the BA’s inauguration, and toured the Library, its affiliated exhibitions and museums, and got acquainted with the different services offered by the BA to members and visitors. His Royal Highness praised the idea of the "Arabic Union Catalogue", which is a joint project between the BA and several Arab countries, on top of which is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His Royal Highness also visited the “Espresso Book Machine”, the latest publishing project at the BA. The tour included the Manuscripts and Antiquities Museums, the Digital Lab, and the Internet Archive.

His Royal Highness viewed the "Culturama", which he much admired and described as "the best throughout the world". He watched the show presenting three different periods of the Egyptian history: the Ancient Egyptian Period, Highlights of Islamic Civilization and Modern Egypt.

At the end of the tour, His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Ibn Sultan expressed his delight and admiration of the Library, and stated that the BA gives pride to Arabs, as a distinguished cultural edifice and a real beacon of knowledge to humanity at large.
