Alexandria— The Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council for Antiquities approved to move a collection of tombstones from the Fine Arts Museum to the BA, after they have been recorded in the records of the West Delta Antiquities District, to be displayed in Antoniadis Gardens.

Dr. Khaled Azab, Deputy Director, Calligraphy Center, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the support of Dr. Zahi Hawas, Secretary General of the Supreme Council, and the choice of the Calligraphy Center as an experience house in the field of inscriptions and writings to document the tombstones in a catalogue entitled "Tombstones from Alexandria". The catalogue contains an analytical study on the collection published for the first time.

Dr. Azab also extended a message of thanks to Dr. Mostafa Abdel Wahab, Director of the Fine Arts Museum and the Municipal Library, for his cooperation and enthusiasm, which emphasizes the importance of partnerships between the BA and different cultural institutions in Alexandria. Dr. Azab also stated that the BA decided to display the tombstones in Antoniadis Gardens, as the collection comprises writings and inscriptions dating back to the 19th century ranging from Quranic verses to du'as for the deceased, as well as compliments or elegies.

It is worth mentioning that the "Tombstones from Alexandria" Catalogue is one of the most important fruits of the partnership agreement between Dr. Zahi Hawas, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria.
