Alexandria— The BA Arts Center, will organize an exhibition entitled “Mirage and Reflection” for Pia Andersen and Lise Allam, from 8 to 24 January 2009. The exhibition features a selection of Andersen’s and Allam`s artworks and showcases their unique talents.

Pia Andersen, the Danish painter developed her artistic talent through attending the School of Arts and Crafts in Denmark and joining the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland. Her paintings depict landscapes in such an exceptional fashion that makes them appear as highly textural coloured constructions. They echo feelings and memories relating to environmental phenomena, reflecting the Danish artistic character and projecting drama on painting, through the horizontal lines and strong movement of the intertwining colors. In recent years, Andersen began painting on jars and dishes and working with glass.

Her works were displayed in solo exhibitions all over Europe, Mexico, USA, Japan, Brazil to mention only a few. Andersen received grants and awards from various bodies such as the Nordic Ministerial Council, the Danish Art Foundation and Queen Ingrid’s Foundation.

Lise Allam is another significant Danish painter who graduated with a first class honor ´s degree in textile design from Manchester University in England. She worked for several years as a freelance designer on a wide range of assignments. In 1976, Allam moved to Egypt where she has been actively involved in several artistic projects. Her paintings seek to capture the common human experience as they are inspired by the conflicting actions and emotions that make up all human identity.

In 1966, Allam`s designs won the Scandinavian Furnishing Fabrics Competition in Sweden and were subsequently sold throughout all Scandinavia.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Thursday, 8 January 2009 at 7:00 pm, at the BACC West Exhibition Hall. The exhibition will be open to the public daily from 9:00 to 21:00 hrs.
