Al-Khedewy in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

Alexandria— The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in Arabic on Wednesday, 25 February 2009. Participants will read Al-Khedewy (The Khedive) by Farouk Gweda.

Composed of two parts, the play begins by the opening of the Suez Canal that underlined the extravagance and improvidence of Khedive Ismail, not withstanding any potential conspiracies or the people’s anger. As a result, prices went up dramatically and a financial crisis took place. Led by Gamal Al-Din Al-Afghani, a major character in the play, the people rebelled. The second part of the play builds on that, ending in an imaginary note. Although events of the play took place in the nineteenth century, issues discussed prove significant till this day.

The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
