Alexandria—For the second consecutive year, under the auspices of the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) will organize the World Environment Day (WED) 2009 on 20 June 2009.

WED 2009 will take place at the BA Plaza, which will be divided into four zones: the Environmental Activity Zone, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Zone, the Exhibition Zone and the Community Zone. The event is open to the public and is a unique opportunity to learn more about environment and climate change, meet new people, share ideas, and participate in a variety of activities and contests.

It is worth mentioning that the United Nations launched the World Environment Day in 1972 to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and action. This international event takes place in June every year. This year UN official host city is Mexico and the overarching theme is “Your Planet Needs You”.
