Shorofat Series: the Latest Publication by the BA Futuristic Studies Unit

The BA Futuristic Studies Unit has issued a new series titled Shorofat. This series specializes in Humanitarian Studies. It aims to publish analytical and critical researches due to their importance in reconstructing Arab societies and in forming Arab awareness through discussing contemporary phenomena, issues of ideology and thought, philosophy, and sciences. Shorofat fundamentally uses the works of researchers or the translations of selected qualitative studies.
The first issue of this series is titled “Creativity and the Regime” and is written by Dr. Maged Morris Ibrahim, a psychiatrist and the author of several published books and scientific articles.
This paper focuses on the problematic relationship between creativity and the ruling regime. It discusses the concept of creativity, its psychological mechanisms, the economics of creativity and its relationship with politics, and creativity’s relationship with the philosophies of different regimes.
The measure and assessment of the state’s stance on creativity is not limited to the criterions of its stance on publishing books in fairs, the censorship of the various arts presented in cinemas or on TV, or the grants and scholarships that the state provides for creators.
Another criterion that we use in evaluating the state’s stance on creativity is how far it nurtures and advocates democratic education or creative education.
