BA Mourns the Loss of Ambassador Aly Maher

With a very heavy and sad heart, the Library of Alexandria announces the decease of H.E. Ambassador Aly Maher El Sayed, one of the pillars of the BA team, a great diplomat and a wonderful person.

Ambassador Maher is a prominent Egyptian diplomat and intellectual. He is the grandson of Ahmad Maher Pasha, Prime Minister of Egypt and the brother of H.E. Ahmad Maher former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs. 

With a degree in Law from Cairo University, he joined the Foreign service. Aly Maher was one of the most prominent and skilled diplomats who represented his country around the world. Maher served  in various diplomatic capacities as a young diplomat in Canberra, Tehran and London, as Ambassador of Egypt in Tunisia, and to France for many years, and was known as the Dean of Arab ambassadors there. He was then appointed secretary general to the Arab Thought Foundation where he played an important role improving cross-cultural dialogue and presenting a global view of Arab culture.

From 2006 to 2008, Ambassador  Aly Maher was the Director of the Institute for Peace Studies in the Library of Alexandria, then became Advisor to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina until 2010 and Head of the External Relations Sector. He then served as the Official Spokesperson of the Library of Alexandria.
