BA Dedicates “Thirty Years of Excavation at the Eastern Gateway of Egypt (1987–2017)” Exhibition to Sinai Martyrs

Dr. Mostafa el Feki, Director of the BA, and Dr. Khaled el-Anany, Minister of Antiquities, inaugurated the “Thirty Years of Excavation at the Eastern Gateway of Egypt (1987–2017)” Exhibition on 13 July 2017. The exhibition is organized by the BA Antiquities Museum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Antiquities, and is going to be held from 13 to 30 July 2017 at the West Exhibition Hall, BA Conference Center (BACC).

Dr. El Feki stated that the BA deeply values this exhibition for it highlights the findings of excavations, carried out by national and international archaeological expeditions, at the Eastern Gateway of Egypt. Said discoveries have revealed a lot of valuable information on Egypt’s military history over the years. Dr. El Feki added that cultural commodities, including the antiquities that reveal the history of this great country, are Egypt’s greatest possessionss.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. El-Anany asked the attendees to stand for a  minute of silence in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives the line of duty in Sinai, stressing that honoring the lives of the martyrs that protected this treasured part of Egypt is a vital necessity to the exhibition’s inauguration.

He then added that the exhibition includes around 1,000 pictures featuring the work and findings of excavation expeditions and other pictures featuring the findings pertaining to discovered military fortresses and the history of the development of military architecture. Dr. El-Anany also stated that the opening will include a series of lectures, during which researchers will present a number of research papers on the recent Egyptian archaeological discoveries made by expeditions in the heart of Suez Canal.

The exhibition’s opening ceremony also included honoring a number of prominent figures who played leading roles in preserving Egypt’s heritage and protecting its antiquities.
