Seminar: Mokhtar and the Egyptian Renaissance

Alexandria — the BA Dialogue Forum Center will hold, on Saturday, 19 August 2006, a seminar on works and art of the Egyptian Sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar and his role in the renaissance of the Egyptian art. Emad Abu Ghazy, Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University will participate in the seminar.
The works of Mahmoud Mokhtar (1891-1934) are considered a continuance of ancient Egyptian art. Mokhtar is also one of the few who helped create a national identity for his country, he also managed to fabricate a distinguished contribution to art since he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1908, at its birth. Mokhtar was the first to hold an individual exhibition in Paris. Nahdet Masr (Egyptian Renaissance) statue is one of Mokhtar’s famous works, and most of his works are on display in his exhibition in Cairo.
