Adonis in the Resident Scholar Program at the BA

Alexandria—the BA will host in the third round of the Resident Scholar Program the great poet Adonis from 5-15 November (5, 7, 13 and 15, for exact times and location please consult the event calendar) to give several cultural and literary lectures. Adonis is Ahmed Said, he adopted his pseudonym early in his career, crystallizing in the name the idea of spiritual renewal. Adonis is a highly influential figure in Arabic poetry and literature today. Adonis studied philosophy at Damascus University and at St Joseph University in Beirut, where he obtained his Doctorat d"Etat in 1973.
Adonis was given several international literary awards including the Golden Crown Prize in Macedonia. He is one of the greatest contemporary intellectuals, whose works raised wide controversies in the Arab intellectual circles, such as Althabit Wal Mutahawil (4 volumes). Adonis’s works include three aspects: poetic works, academic and research works, and translations of the western literature.
