The First Conference On Tourism And Handicrafts In The Islamic Countries

Alexandria — Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria sent Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of the Media Department to attend the First Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts in Islamic Countries from 7 to 14 September 2006, organized by the Saudi Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT) and the Organization of the Islamic Conference"s Research Center for Islamic History, Art, and Culture (IRCICA) in the King Abdul-Aziz Historical Center in Riyadh.
The conference studies methods of activating the economic role of handicrafts in Islamic world; discusses the ways and means of creating job opportunities for citizens in the field of handicraft; and creates new data base on the existing status of handicrafts in Islamic world, through field research paper submitted by consultants of member countries. Dr. Khaled Azab participates in the conference with a paper on “the Role of Media in Promoting Handicrafts in Islamic Countries”. The paper presents a practical vision on how to promote handicrafts through mass media, including audio-visual as well as printed materials.
