The Flame of Peace 2007 Arrives at the BA Celebrating the Centennial of the Scouts Movement

Under the auspices of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Chairperson and Founder of Suzanne Mubarak Women for Peace Movement (SMWPM), the BA will hold a celebration on Wednesday, 6 June 2007, on the occasion of the arrival of the "Flame of Peace 2007" to Alexandria before its heads to Europe via the Mediterranean.
General Adel Labib, Alexandria Governorate, and Haris Lalacos, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Alexandria, will attend the celebration, which will include singing and entertaining performances, following the arrival of scouts and guides from all over the world at the BA to celebrate one hundred years since Lord Baden-Powell ran his experimental scout camp on Brownsea Island (UK).
The main idea of the project is to carry a flame via an overland or sea journey. The Flame will be taken via the shortest route, i.e. Ethiopia, Sudan and finally Alexandria, Egypt. The flame will then be carried by Scouts and Guides through Greece, Italy, France, Belgium and finally the UK where it will arrive on 31 July 2007, the eve of Scouting sunrise. The flame is intended to spread the spirit of the founder of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement, Lord Baden-Powell, all over the world and will also symbolize "The flame of Peace 2007".
The BA is the last stop for the Flame before it passes through the Mediterranean to the UK, where the 21st World Scout Jamboree will be held from 27 July to 8 August in the UK, bringing together 42,000 scouts, venturers, leaders, and guides from 155 countries all over the world.
The Celebration will start at 18:00 hrs at the BA Plaza of Civilization.
