Ambassador Ali Maher Hands Out Certificates of Completion of the First Course of the Peace Studies Institute at the BA

Alexandria— Ambassador Ali Maher, Director, BA Peace Studies Institute, will hand out certificates of completion of the course entitled "Human Rights and International Law" on Sunday, 15 July 2007, to 19 students, who successfully completed the course.

The handing-out ceremony will be attended by Ambassador Mokhles Kotb, Secretary General of the National Council on Human Rights, Chancellor Iskandar Ghatas, International Advisor to the UN Program on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Dr. Mohamed Said El-Dakak, Professor of International Law, Alexandria University.

The course tackled several themes including: the role of the National Council for Women in protecting women rights, regional conventions on human rights, the humanitarian international law, the global sources of the human rights law, national and international challenges facing human rights, the State's Council, the constitutional protection for human rights (special study on combating terrorism), criminal protection of human rights, and the National Council on Motherhood and Childhood.

Ambassador Ali Maher, Director of the Peace Studies Institute, stated that the first course emphasized the mission and objectives of the Peace Institute and the "Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement" calling for the dissemination of the culture of peace and laying the foundations of an action plan towards achieving peace on the international, regional and national levels.
