The BA signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding on 3 March 2008, forming a partnership with TakingITGlobal (TIG) in Canada, to engage youth from Canada and the MENA region in cross-cultural dialogue, and to support youth-led development, through the “Youth for Change” program.
The “Youth for Change” pilot project will focus on a minimum of 6 priority countries from the Arab World. It is to achieve its objectives through the following components:
• Facilitate ongoing cross-cultural dialogue using online community tools and spaces provided by TakingITGlobal and the Arab InfoMall.
• Facilitate local “Youth for Change Open Forum” events where approximately 30 youth come together in a library, community center, school or NGO in order to identify key challenges facing youth and how youth can address them.
• Set up two online live chat events to encourage discussion among participants in the 6 priority countries on the following:
o Utilizing new media to promote dialogue across cultures
o Strengthening youth as community Agents of Change
• Support youth-led action projects through Mini-Grant Awards and online training workshops that leverage the Taking ITGlobal Guide to Action and feature case studies of youth who have had experience in implementing community action projects on youth employment, health and education.
• Select award winners for scholarships to attend the World Youth Congress in the city of Quebec in order to receive additional support, training and access to international networks focusing on supporting youth-led development.
