Serageldin Gives a Lecture on Digital Revolution and Arab Future

Alexandria— The Institute of Arab Researches and Studies in Cairo is hosting Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, on Saturday, 14 March 2009, to give a lecture entitled “The Digital Revolution and Arab Future”.
The Lecture is significant as the world of today is living in a time when the notions of industrialization and progress have widely changed. Today all revolutions stem from the new knowledge and technology, which distinguish developed societies from the still developing ones. The United States, Japan, Europe and even China witnessed major changes in keeping with this digital revolution that is no less important than the previous two revolutions: agricultural and industrial.
The Information Revolution is still in its first phase, yet it is characterized by rapid changes. Knowledge is being doubled each eighteen months, and new branches of sciences are emerging that did not exist ten years ago. Thus, the gap between the developed and developing countries will dramatically increase in the near future.
