Le Malentendu in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in French on Wednesday, 3 November 2010. Participants will read Le Malentendu (The Misunderstanding) by Albert Camus.

The Play is based on a true story: a mother and her daughter own an inn in a small gloomy town. Aiming to leave for a sunny place where there is sea, thus new horizon, they decide to kill guests of the inn and steal their money. One day, the prodigal son returns unrecognized after years abroad. Wanting to take his mother and sister by surprise, he does not reveal his identity instantly. Would the mother recognize her son, or would he become their next victim? The play symbolizes an innate “misunderstanding” in human nature, a core principle in existentialism, in a world occupied by evil. Camus wrote this play in 1943 in occupied Paris, and the carnage of World War II is the immediate point of reference.

The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
