The Library as a Forum for Freedom of Expression

Posted on

Today, the Library again showed why it became such a beacon for freedom of expression. In this case, former employees of the Library, who were transferred with their civil service positions to other government departments, picketed asking that they be returned to the library, accusing us of having been unfair in their transfer three years ago, even though the courts ruled in favor of the transfer.

The library, which cherishes the right of dissent and peaceful protest, welcomed them on its premises and allowed them to hold up their banners without interference (see picture). While we disagree with what they say, we defend their right to say it, and to demonstrate peacefully. We practice what we preach.
