Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, gave a presentation in which he highlighted how Shakespeare was daring in his subject matter, portraying multi-layered characters and redefining them in such a way that they continue to engage us across time, place and language. Serageldin also spoke of the mastery and craftsmanship of Shakespeare’s language in both verse and prose, as highlighted in his drama.

Edward Chaney of Southampton Solent University gave a presentation focusing on Shakespeare’s portrayal of Cleopatra in comparisons with several art pieces.
