Dr. Mostafa el Feki, Director of the BA, and Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, signed a cooperation protocol between the BA and the Authority aiming to preserve the history of the Suez Canal and restore its documents and records due to the Suez Canal’s huge significance to Egypt and the entire world as one of the most important waterways in the world.

The protocol states that the BA Manuscript Museum will offer full support for the preservation of the Suez Canal heritage. The documents will be chemically treated and restored. The microfilms and VHS tapes located at the Authority’s library will be digitized and stored in a preliminary database. The necessary training will be provided for the Authority’s library staff to teach them about periodic maintenance of books and manuscripts and how to deal with them and store them properly.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will also establish an Embassy of Knowledge at the Authority’s headquarters, so that they can benefit from all the digital tools and privileges offered to visitors of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
