Ms. Oum Kulthum, the daughter of the late great writer Naguib Mahfouz, presented his personal library to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, to be made available to Library users, researchers, and scholars. The library comprises nearly 1500 books, ranging from his own literary works, to books, dictionaries, and encyclopedias acquired by or gifted to the Nobel laureate. Ms. Oum Kulthum received Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, who headed a delegation of library experts led by Dr. Mohamed Soliman, Head of the Cultural Outreach Sector, to carry out the necessary procedures.
Ms. Oum Kulthum expressed her delight at presenting her late father's library to the BA, an institution that she cherishes, noting that she embarked on this step after visiting the Library and noticing how books are handled in a professional manner.
For his part, Prof. Ahmed Zayed thanked Ms. Oum Kulthum, and said that the personal library of Naguib Mahfouz will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the visitors and users of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as it will allow them to approach the world of this internationally distinguished literary figure.
In addition, Dr. Mohamed Soliman highlighted the significance of this day, as the library of the great writer Naguib Mahfouz will join the list of the special book collections dedicated to the most prominent Egyptian thinkers and intellectuals. He also noted that this is the 57th donation to be added to the BA Special Collections Library.
