The BA at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

Alexandria, 16 November 2005— The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) of Egypt, will participate in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Phase II held in Tunisia, 15-19 November 2005.
One of the events that the BA is organizing is a panel discussion under the theme “Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Role in Building the Information Society”, chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The discussions will focus on the following issues:- Promoting Culture in the Digital World;
- Bridging the Digital Divide;
- Providing Arabic E-Content;and
- Building a Universal Digital Library
Eminent figures who will be joining the panel discussion are Dr. Alan Kay, President Viewpoints Research Institute, Adjunct Prof at UCLA, Visiting Professor Kyoto; Mr. Andrew McLaughlin, Head of Google"s Global Public Policy Team; as well as Mr. Jonathan Murray, Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The panel discussion will take place on 18 November from 13:00 to 15.00 hrs in Jerba Meeting Room at the Parc des expositions du Kram (Kram PalExpo).
