Live Webcast for the WSIS at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Alexandria, 17 November 2005—On the occasion of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) phase II, organized by the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), 16-18 November 2005, in Tunis, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Library Sector will hold a live broadcast of the Summit’s activities. The patrons can attend the broadcast on levels F2 and B3. The live broadcast is multilingual, Arabic translation is available for all the sessions during the 3-day event.
The discussions explore important issues, such as Financial Mechanisms for bridging the digital divide, the Internet Governance and the use of the ICTs as a tool, at the service of development, to promote the use of information and knowledge to achieve the internationally-agreed development goals and objectives, including the Millennium Development Goals, as well as to address the national and local development priorities.
Eminent dignitaries will attend the discussions—Kofi Anan, UN Secretary-General, and representatives from international organizations, such as UNESCO, ITU, International Chamber of Commerce, and the International Federation for Human Rights.
BA visitors are invited to attend this event and participate in the actions taken to develop the knowledge society, which is the base for country development.
