Written on Egypt's best known architect since Imhotep, this book presents a detailed biography of a man who, rooted in his local surroundings, strove for cultural authenticity and was, as a result, universally appreciated. Born on 23 March 1900,
Hassan
Fathy
was destined to influence the architectural trends and modes of his century. A renowned name in his field, Fathy was still a lonely guru who, though marginalized by his contemporary peers, never compromised his vision; he continued to reject the Western modernist norm and design for human beings. This must-read book presents an illustrated documentary of the projects and buildings Fathy so masterfully designed.

In 2013, the focus was placed on two main categories. The first one was dedicated to the Graduation Projects of Architecture Students in Egyptian Public and Private Universities (2012-2013), with an attempt to discuss and discover these immense and innovative architectural horizons. As for the second one, Sustainability and Creativity in Interior Design, it included integrated interior designs for residential, commercial, administrative, and recreational buildings, as well as other integral designs of decorative elements and furniture.

This year, the two cycles of 2011 and 2012 have been combined together. The focus of the 2011 award was the “Architectural Creativity of Young Egyptian Architects” to encourage young architects and be acquainted with their visions and ideas, in addition to offering a forum for presenting and discussing their architectural projects. The 2012 Award focused on “New Comprehensive Developments and Cityscapes”. Over the past few decades, a new form of architectural design has appeared on the Egyptian architectural scene, which, unlike the limited nature of individual buildings or residential apartments, entails comprehensive development projects.
