The BA Writing and Scripts Center organizes a seminar entitled "One Hundred Years since the Death of Ahmed Pasha Kamal" on the occasion of the completion of the restoration and digitization process of The Dictionary of the Ancient Egyptian Language. The event will take place on Tuesday, 1 August 2023, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, in the BACC Delegates Hall, and will host the family of Ahmed Pasha Kamal and his grandson, Engineer Abdel Hamid Kamal Zakaria, who donated his grandfather’s Dictionary to the BA. Ahmed Pasha Kamal was the founder of the Egyptian National School of Egyptology, and is considered the sheikh of Egyptian archaeologists.

The seminar will begin with the opening of the exhibition "Ahmed Kamal Pasha: The Pioneer of Egyptology", where parts of The Dictionary of the Ancient Egyptian Language will be displayed, for the first time, after the completion of its restoration process that took place in the restoration laboratory at the Library. The exhibition will also feature some of the rare works of Ahmed Kamal Pasha preserved inside the Library, together with personal photos of him with his family, and certain copies of his documents. Additionally, a documentary film produced by the BA Studio Department will be screened on the life and struggles of Ahmed Pasha Kamal, and his determination to learn the ancient Egyptian language and disseminate it for the general public.

A group of professors of ancient Egyptian language will participate in the seminar, and a series of lectures will be delivered by specialized BA researchers highlighting the Library’s role in restoring and digitizing The Dictionary of the Ancient Egyptian Language and making it available to the public.
