Elective
Objective: This course aims to achieve a deeper understanding of Alexandrian literature in light of the classical Greek traditions.
Content: The political changes from the city-state system, and the transformation to the huge Hellenistic kingdoms as reflected in the literary works of Alexandria, will be studied. The role of the eastern background in creating new dimensions of Hellenistic civilization will also be studied. The literary innovations in Alexandria were the transition from the oral traditions to the written ones. It is clear that this is embodied in the Library of Alexandria and the Mouseion.
