Amira Nowaira is former Chairperson of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, Egypt, and is currently Professor Emerita of English Literature in the same Department. She has published extensively in various fields including English, Arabic and comparative literature, Arab women’s writing and translation. She is co-editor of Women Writing Africa: The Northern Region (Feminist Press 2009) and the translator of various English and Arabic works that include Zeina by Nawal Saadawi (Saqi Books 2011), The Tobacco Keeper by Ali Bader (Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing 2011), The Corsair by Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud (Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing 2012) and The Consolidation Years: 1979–1987 by Sultan Bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi  Bloomsbury, 2013
