MENANEE Workshops

Discussions on possible network on Environmental Economics in the Middle-East
2-4 May 2005 - ICTP, Trieste, Italy

This meeting aimed at discussing about various possible forms of co-operation on environmental economics in the Middle-East, with the final goal of creating a Middle East network on this research field. Representatives from Middle-Eastern countries, SANDEE and CEEPA took part in the discussion.

The meeting achieved its purpose and created the "Middle East and North Africa Network of Environmental Economists (MENANEE)", the Secretariat of which will be coordinated by Dr. Mohamed A.K. Abdrabo from Alexandria-Egypt. Follow up efforts are under way to house MENANEE with TWAS regional offices at the Alexandria Library.

On December 5-16, 2005, the EEE Programme and MENANEE are organising the 1st Teaching Workshop on Environmental Economics for the Middle East and North Africa. This is the first activity organised by MENANEE. The workshop will be held in the ICTP headquarters, Trieste, Italy.

1st Teaching Workshop on Environmental Economics for the Middle East and North Africa
5-16 December 2005 - Trieste, Italy

The Ecological and Environmental Economics (EEE) Programme, a joint programme of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics, is organising the 1st Teaching Workshop on Environmental Economics for the Middle East and North Africa. The workshop is organized in co-operation with the Middle East and North Africa Network of Environmental Economists (MENANEE). It will be held in the ICTP in Trieste, Italy, from December 5-16, 2005.

The objective of this workshop is to give the participants a good background in the theory of environmental and resource economics and in application techniques in this specific field.

The Course is targeted to graduates in economics and preferably with some post-graduate level training in economics or relevant fields who are based in Middle-Eastern and Northern African countries, and in particular in Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
