Presentation Abstract:
One important key to the success of a Science Centre is its ability to change efficiently. Such changes may come in the form of new themes, new media of presentation, new technology and lively learning options offered to the visitors. A new museological experiment was conducted by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), India at its Science Centre located at Kurukshetra, North India. A very large blown-up Panorama Painting on the 18-day war described in the epic Mahabharata was displayed as a central exhibit. The scientific signals described in the epic have been explained through a large display of exhibits on the rich scientific heritage of India. This Science Centre has now become one of the most popular units of NCSM.
Mobile Science Exhibitions are being run by NCSM throughout India for about 40 years now. They have been immensely successful in general and the operations have taught NCSM a lot about taking the message of science to rural India. For a large country like India with its typical diverse conditions, the Mobile Science Exhibitions have been a strong tool for spreading non-formal science education.
