Presentation Abstract:
Empowering our people with science and its languages
A Latin American perspective
Social inclusion and the democratization of knowledge are deeply related and still unsolved issues in Latin America. In order to collaborate in achieving knowledge based and fair societies in our region, improving scientific literacy is a powerful tool for equity and science centers have become very important meeting places for science and society. RedPOP, the Latin American Network for Science Popularization has struggled for more than fifteen years to foster programs that present global knowledge of science and technology within our local realities. Some of these examples will be presented in this session. Undoubtedly science centers of the world share the same goals stated in the Toronto Declaration (2008); however, each region has peculiarities that will be very interesting to address.
