‘Effective science communication through exploiting an experience-focused culture’ We live in a knowledge-based economy, but societal trends in learning and leisure activities indicate that people of all ages are refocusing on experience-related activities, as a backlash against digital diarrhea. Science centre exhibits and programmes that cater for this trend are likely to be successful. Examples from South Africa and the Gulf Region relating to topics as varied as drug abuse, science of sport, nuclear power, Einstein and Darwin’s theories, astronomy and Islamic science are discussed, as well as different methodologies, such as science theatre, science shows, role-playing games and mobile science centres.
