Fatema Aly Khafagy

Biography:
Dr. Khafagy is a holder of Ph.D. in Development Planning from University of London. She was the chief of Gender and Development Program at UNICEF for 15 years, established and also presided the Ombudsperson for Gender Equality at the National Council for Women in Egypt. At present she works as gender and human rights consultant to UNDP, and to ESCWA in Egypt and the rest of Arab countries and to The European Commission and the Swedish Institute in Alexandria . Dr. Khafagy has over 20 years experience working with the U.N., governments, NGOs and donor agencies in planning, monitoring and evaluating gender and development, child rights and civil society programs and projects. She has worked as Policy advisor in EuroMed Economic Role of Women project (2006-2007) and as EC Expert in Civil Society Participatory Approaches in a project entitled “Identification and Formulation of a Programme for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Civil Society in Egypt”. She is also engaged in voluntary work. She is a board member of the Alliance for Arab Women, of Euro-Med Civic Forum and a member of Women Leaders Network at Wellesley College in the U.S.A. She has a number of Arabic and English publications on impact of labor migration, women and children’s rights in the Arab region and civil society.
