Tutankhamun"s Wardrobe in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA)

Alexandria — the BA Arts Center will organize as of 29 March 2006 an exhibition entitled Tutankhamun"s Wardrobe: A Reconstruction of the Textiles of Tutankhamun’s Treasure, in cooperation with the Swedish Institute and the Swedish Museum of Textile History. The exhibition features the meticulously created reconstruction of the nearly 3500 years old clothes of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria and H.E. Stig Elvemar, Ambassador of Sweden will inaugurate the exhibition.

On the fringe lines of the exhibition, the BA will hold a seminar on 30 March 2006 entitled Textile Cultural Heritage at 9:30 at the auditorium at the BA entrance. Number of specialists in heritage and history will attend the seminar including Dr. Mohamed Saleh, Former Director of the Egyptian Museum. In the seminar, Dr. Christina Rinaldo, University Lecturer, Textile Department, University College of Boras will give a lecture entitled Tutankhamun"s Wardrobe Project. Dr. Fathi Saleh, Director of Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage will give a talk on Cultural Heritage Policy. Dr. Abdel Halim Nour El-Din, Director of the BA Calligraphy Center and Former Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities and Dr. Yassin Ziedan, Professor at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University will also participate in the seminar. Try Hard Storage and Display of Textile will be the title of a lecture given by Ms Anna Kristiansen, Conservator, National Museums of World Culture.

It is worth mentioning that the first traveling exhibition of Tutankhamun Wardrobe Project was inaugurated by H.M. Queen Silvia, Queen of Sweden in October 1999 in Sweden. The exhibition displayed replicas of the young Pharaoh clothes 3500 years ago. In February 2000, the exhibition started its journey to Europe, USA, and Egypt.
