A Revolution in Publishing Led by the BA and the Egyptian Publishers Union

Posted on

Alexandria — the BA launched a new project changing the nature of publishing in the Arab world. The project presents a new pattern of printing books on demand, through a print machine created in the USA. The machine will store books in their electronic form to be printed immediately upon the purchaser’s order.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Engineer Ibrahim El Moalem, Head of the Egyptian Publishers Union signed a cooperation agreement on the “Printing on Demand” Project. The Egyptian Publishers Union will supply the machine with books in their electronic form. The machine will be placed in several places in Egypt and the Arab world besides the BA.

The machine is the first of its kind to use an electronic program to transfer books in their digital form to printed book immediately on demand. This new system will allow the circulation of books upon its issuance, and will be also useful in printing out of print books.
