Alexandria—Mr. Neil MacGregor, Director, British Museum, praised the first issue of Abgadiyat (Alphabets) annual journal, and expressed his wish that the Museum's Egyptology Department participates in the journal with research papers.

Abgadiyat, issued annually by the BA Calligraphy Center, is concerned with the specialized study of matters related to the origin and evolution of writing, script, and inscription through the millennia.

The bilingual journal's first issue (October 2006) comprises a collection of outstanding research papers, 10 in Arabic and 4 in English, dealing with writing and script in different geographical locations and at different time-periods.

Several cultural institutions in China, India, Uruguay, and Pakistan commended Abgadiyat. Dr. Khaled Azab, Editor in Chief, Abgadiyat, Deputy Director, BA Calligraphy Center, received several requests from different institutions wanting to participate with scientific studies in the journal.

Dr. Khaled Azab stated that the journal is the pioneering publication of its kind in the Middle East. The BA Calligraphy Center set up an advisory board for Abgadiyat, including senior specialists in script and its different types from France, Egypt, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria.
