The BA Holds a Preparatory Meeting for the Japan Arab Conference: A New Dawn – Arabs Looking East

Alexandria— The BA held a preparatory meeting for the Japan Arab Conference: A New Dawn – Arabs Looking East scheduled to take place in Alexandria from 20-21 November 2007. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Tsukasa Uemura, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Egypt. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Egypt and the BA.

The conference will bring together leaders from politics, business, science, technology, culture and the civil society from both Japan and the Arab world for an intensive two day event that aims to reinforce Japan-Arab relations, on all fronts, and to explore future possibilities of further cooperation. The conference will have four main themes: political and diplomatic; economic and financial; cultural and social; science and technology (including R&D) and environment and water. Each theme will have a special group of designated participants and will have some parallel sessions devoted to it, in addition to being addressed in plenary.
