Serageldin Receives an Honorary Doctorate from Azerbaijan

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, left Alexandria on Sunday, 23 November 2007, to visit Azerbaijan, upon an invitation by the Government of Azerbaijan to discuss holding the Youth Employment Summit 2008 in Azerbaijan. Serageldin and the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan launched the kick-off of the Youth Employment Summit 2008 that is to be held in Azerbaijan in 2008 at a press conference that gathered a large number of youth and media representatives. Serageldin also discussed YES 2008 with the First Lady of Azerbaijan who expressed her support to the conference and wished it every success.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin will also visit Azerbaijan National Library in Baku to discuss the ways of strengthening cooperation in the framework of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding between the Azerbaijan National Library and the BA. As part of his visit to Azerbaijan, Dr. Seragedlin will give lectures on preservation of architectural and urban heritage in Central Asia.
Dr. Serageldin will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Azerbaijan State Economic University and from Khazar University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of society and for special achievements in science and education.
