Celebrating 50 Years of Al-Arabi Magazine at the BA

Alexandria— The BA, UNESCO and Kuwait will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Al-Arabi Magazine. The celebration will start on 13 January 2008 in Kuwait, followed by another in Alexandria on 3 April 2008, attended by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Minister of Information, and Dr. Soliman Ibrahim Al-Askari, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Arabi Magazine. As part of the celebration, Dr. Ahmad Abu Zeid, Professor of Anthropology, University of Alexandria, and Dr. Gaber Asfour, Chairman of the National Authority for Translation, will be honored as distinguished Egyptian writers in Al-Arabi magazine.

On the other hand, the BA prepared a catalogue documenting the history of Al-Arabi magazine and its publications, including Al-Arabi Al-Saghier, Al-Arabi (Scientific), Al-Arabi (Writers), and Al-Arabi website.

Arab intellectuals, writers, and media men will participate in the BA celebration. Dr. Khaled Azab, Head of Media Department and Deputy Director of the BA Calligraphy Center, will represent the BA in the Kuwaiti celebration, 13-16 January 2008, along with Sheikh Faisal Al Malek Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Deputy Minister of Information, and a group of Kuwaiti distinguished media men. During his visit to Kuwait, Dr. Khaled Azab will coordinate the arrangements for the celebration at the BA, which will include an exhibition of photographs and documents from Al-Arabi magazine.
