Hernani in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

Alexandria— The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading session in Arabic on Wednesday, 27 February 2008. Participants will read the Arabic translation of Hernani by Victor Hugo.

The play’s proceedings take place in Spain, where Hugo presents Doña Sol, a young noble woman, who is loved by three men; Don Ruy Gomez de Silva, Don Carlos, King of Spain, and the bandit Hernani. At the end of the play, the king pardons Hernani and gives him Doña Sol and Silva accepts the marriage of Hernnai to Doña Sol, on the condition that Hernani would commit suicide whenever Silva asks him so. The two are married, but as they enjoy their wedding feast, Hernani hears the call of the horn blown by Silva, and kills himself by drinking poison to retain his honor. Doña Sol drinks her poison as well and they die together. Silva then kills himself.

The session starts at 17:00 hrs. at the Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
